Note that over 50 districts nationwide are still showing open Superintendent positions that they intend to fill immediately but have not named.
2. Burbio now offers both an API and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for accessing the PreK-12 Intelligence Hub. The MCP enables clients to use LLMs to analyze Burbio's district intelligence alongside their own data, uncovering highly targeted opportunities through natural language queries. 3. Burbio's Signals Tracker summarizes millions of pages of school board discussions, helping clients identify emerging issues and immediate selling opportunities. Our review of the past 90 days of board discussions identified several AI trends that have not appeared in our previous reports:
- AI governance is rapidly expanding: Districts are establishing standing groups to oversee AI implementation under a wide range of names including AI Committees, AI Task Forces, AI Think Tanks, and Future Ready Task Forces.
- State AI legislation is now explicitly shaping policy: Rather than referencing state guidance generally, districts are increasingly citing specific state AI laws and bill numbers directly in board policies, administrative guidance, and implementation plans.
- Districts are defining where AI should not be used: Rather than simply encouraging responsible use, policies are increasingly identifying functions that should remain human-led, such as student discipline, placement decisions, and teacher responsibilities.
- Mental health considerations are entering AI guidance: Districts are beginning to address students' relationships with AI chatbots, including guidance on unhealthy dependence, counselor training, and AI-specific incident response protocols.
- Districts are adopting AI-specific safety and academic integrity tools: Examples include AI-generated writing detection, AI-enhanced student monitoring, and generative AI risk detection.
- Deepfakes are becoming a district policy issue: Boards are beginning to address deepfakes explicitly, focusing on student safety, privacy, meeting integrity, and misuse of synthetic media.
4. Burbio's K-12 Construction Tracker follows school construction projects from early discussion through completion, providing district-level visibility into projects long before plans, budgets, or RFPs are finalized. Below are some examples of recently updated early stage planning discussions:
- Robbinsdale Public School District, MN, has recently reviewed their long term facilities plan. In the next 12 months the district is finalizing district reconfiguration and construction plans in light of declining district enrollment.
- Westwood ISD, TX, is in discussions to form a bond committee, with a specific look at improvements for the high school.
- Brea Olinda Unified School District, CA, is actively updating its Facilities Master Plan and gathering community input to shape future school construction, modernization projects, and campus environments.
- Dennis Yarmouth School District, MA, is conducting a feasibility study on building improvements for one of its elementary schools.
